A very important but often overlooked step when setting up the PENTAX AF360FGZ or AF-540FGZ to be used off-camera in Wireless Flash mode, is the need to “register” the channel used by the flash with the camera. If this step is skipped, the *on-camera flash or flash (AF360FGZ or AF540FGZ) mounted on the camera hot shoe will not be able to trigger the off-camera flash.1) Set the flash unit’s power switch to WIRELESS.
2) Set the WIRELESS Mode switch to [S].
3) Slide down the setting switch to the [yellow dot] and press the [CH.] button to select a wireless channel.
4) After setting the channel, attach the flash unit to the camera’s hot shoe and turn on the camera. Press the shutter button halfway to register the camera’s flash channel with the flash.
5) Press the flash mode button and set the flash to P-TTL mode then remove the flash (without turning it off) from the camera hot shoe and place it in the desired position off-camera.

*Some PENTAX DSLR models require a 2nd AF360FGZ or AF540FGZ mounted on the camera hot shoe to trigger an off-camera flash in wireless mode. If you are using a shoe-mounted flash to trigger an off-camera flash, both flash units will need to be “registered” with the camera body using the steps described above.
